Renault 5 Maxi Turbo on the track (video + pictures)

In the pictures you can see a Renault 5 Maxi Turbo at the Modena racetrack. It is a Group B rally car, produced from 1984 to 1985. The Maxi Turbo is powered by a mid-rear position 4-cylinder inline engine with displacement increased to 1527 cc, equivalent with the turbo to 2200 cc effective. Francoise Bernard was responsible for the development of the frame, thanks to a new design of the roll cage and the use of aluminum, Kevlar and carbon fiber it proved to be 35% more rigid and 25 kg lighter than the previous Renault 5 Tour de Corse, the Maxi Turbo weighs only 950 kg. Engine development was entrusted to the F1 team: many components and technical solutions, such as the Bosch mechanical injection system, the turbocharger, pistons and water injection derived from the Formula 1 V6 Turbo engine. The engine power of the Maxi Turbo GroupB is over 350 hp at 6500 rpm, while torque is 422 Nm. The engine is mated to the rear-wheel drive with limited slip differential and a manual five-speed transmission. The Maxi Turbo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, it reaches a top speed of 209 km/h and it takes 15 seconds to reach 400 m from standstill. La potenza del motore della Maxi Turbo gruppo B superò i 350 CV a 6500 giri/min, mentre la coppia è 422 Nm. Il motore è abbinato alla trazione posteriore con differenziale autobloccante e a un cambio manuale a cinque marce. La Maxi Turbo accelera da 0 a 100 km/h in 6,6 secondi, raggiunge una velocità massima di 209 km/h e impiega 15 secondi per raggiungere i 400 m da ferma.
